Custom Cabinetry vs. Semi-Custom Cabinetry
Custom is not automatically better. It is better in specific conditions, and it is worth knowing which ones apply to your home.

What you are actually paying for
Custom cabinetry buys you dimension, material and construction that match your room exactly — including the walls that are out of plumb and the ceiling height nobody planned for.
Semi-custom buys you a very good product in fixed increments. In a square room with standard heights, those increments may cost you nothing.
When custom clearly wins
Irregular rooms, tall ceilings, integrated appliances, unusual storage, and any run of cabinetry that must meet panelling or trim without a filler strip.
Also anywhere the cabinetry is meant to read as architecture rather than furniture.
How to choose without guessing
Have someone measure the room properly and lay both options over it. The decision usually makes itself once you can see where the fillers land.
